William Shakespeare was born to John Shakespeare and Mary Arden on April 23, 1564. His parents baptized him three days after because of the “Black Death” plague; they needed to make sure their child went to paradise if he died; thankfully, he survived. Shakespeare was of the higher class. His father was a wine taster, a job considered to be noble because wine was the safest type of drink since their water was highly polluted due to their poor sanitation. Later on in his life, John became the Alderman of Stratford, then the Mayor of Stratford, and finally the Chief Alderman of Stratford. Because of his positions of authority, the family became even wealthier and little William, along with his siblings, had the opportunity to receive free, quality education. In 1852, William Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway. The marriage was a very quick one. It is believed that Anne became pregnant prior to their marriage. William was underage at the time of his marriage, so his father had to have consented to his marrying Anne. A full volume of his plays was not published until 1616, seven years after his death. There were eighteen other copies published during his lifetime, but they were illegal copies
